Floor tile has superior heat transference properties. It will automatically make you feel cooler if it’s in an already cool room.

Some in tropical climates install tile in their bedrooms. This is done so they can step out on something cool first thing in the morning.

Keep in mind that temperature transference goes both ways. If the sun is beating down on a patio or deck floor and you walk out in bare feet–ouch!

About durability

If it’s been a while since you’ve walked into a tile store, you'll be amazed at what you see. Both porcelain and ceramic come in almost unlimited colors and patterns.

Porcelain and ceramic behave differently in various installations. In addition, not all tiles are the same, making some better for specific installations than others.

It's essential to get the right type for your installation. The right or wrong one can make or break a project.

Porcelain is considered the leader when it comes to durable tile. It's heavier, denser, and waterproof whether or not it's glazed–and also fashionable. So come into our tile shop to explore porcelain.

Because of these characteristics, porcelain is ideal for heavily trafficked floors in busy rooms, such as the kitchen or hallway. It is also used outside to withstand the most severe weather.

Ceramic tiles are thinner but, when glazed, become waterproof and have a tough outer shell. These are best for indoor, moderately busy rooms.

Two other durable ceramics

1. Mosaics: Tiny, highly decorative, and often glass-coated. These are durable enough to be a floor tile for the bathroom.

2. Terracotta bricks: Once used mainly outside. They look so good with a rustic design they are now coming indoors.

Other advantages of tile are low maintenance. Dirt and pollutants sit at the top, waiting to be wiped off. They are also hypoallergenic and green, coming from earth-friendly materials and emitting no VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds.
